Radio in Germany is notoriously bad, WDR 4, is probably the only public radio station I can listen to. Funny how its official target audience is over 50...
Just another token of appreciating of the more than excellent Radio Paradise listener-supported web radio station. https://
I absolutely love buying second hand #minidiscs and finding they still contain radio recordings and music. It's like discovering someone else's personal music collection. I'd like to imagine how these people were and why they recorded the songs and how they listened to them.
I was today years old when I realized HTML "radio" buttons are really named after the old style buttons on old radios.
Just what is going on with white people? Police shootings of unarmed African Americans. Acts of domestic terrorism by white supremacists. The renewed embrace of raw, undisguised white-identity politics. Unending racial inequity in schools, housing, criminal justice, and hiring. Some of this feels new, but in truth it’s an old story. Why? Where did the notion of “whiteness” come from? What does it mean? What is whiteness for? Scene on Radio host and producer John Biewen took a deep dive into these questions, along with an array of leading scholars and regular guest Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika, in this fourteen-part documentary series, released between February and August 2017. The series editor is Loretta Williams.
(Not a radio station), Karachi Beach Radio uses oral history and experimental sound as media of inquiry to study complex relationships between the ecology of the commons and Karachi’s rapidly commercialising (public) Seaview coastline.
KBR listens to the commons as it happens; and as it disappears… asking what the future of the commons might be? It records the insistent presence of local ecologies that create the commons. It also records the sounds of toxic agents and invasive flows that are now a part of it; and the transformations of open space into impermeable projections of generic world cities.
Found this song by Ofra Haza on a recently obtained second hand MiniDisc as radio recording and got it stuck on repeat! Powerful stuff.

The Belgian DJ's from Radio Soulway (RSWX) clearly had way too much fun making this "Benelux" themed one hour long #music mix and accompanying video.
Reluctantly paid the €52,50 GEZ Beiträge for the next quarter. We don't listen to any radio and we don't watch any TV, yet because you live in #Germany you need to pay to support this archaic state-owned yet commercially managed media.
My favourite #radio station above all is #RadioParadise. Take a look at their playlist. What other radio station plays such amazing music all the time? https://
