Need more space on your Android phone? Use an SD card! At least, that's the promise, reality is that using an SD card as an expansion is still (after all these years) still a terrible process which is super unstable. Tried three times copying an app's storage to the "SD Card" on Android 11 and every time the phone ends up crashing.

Pretty cool how our Fairphone 3s (from 2019) got the upgrade to Android 11 over the weekend.

having this annoying Android app issue where authentication does not persist in an app if the app's storage is NOT on the "Internal Shared Storage", but on the extra SD card? Security over convenience I suppose.

Looking for a new phone, but you're holding back because of the environmental impact of new hardware? Fairphone is the answer.

Looking for a new phone, but you're holding back because of the environmental impact? There is a solution with Fairphone.

I've had my FP3 for over three years now and it still works great.

I was even able to upgrade  the cameras in the phone myself by ordering the parts (yes, FairPhone made better camera modules available after the phone was released!) and opening up the phone and installing everything back in place with a couple (about 13) of screws.

Comes with easily replaceable battery, screen, speaker and other modules. Just look at that beautiful 10/10 Ifixit rating!

The phone seems a bit more pricey at first glance, but if you consider that you can probably use the same phone for double the time you would with a cheap, non-sustainable alternative, it is worth the investment.

PLUS Fairphone will make sure to provide your phone with software updates much longer than any other phone manufacturer. And if you don't like Google's default Android install there are options to install an alternative, privacy focused, operating system with minimal effort.

PLUS Fairphone makes sure to resource as many raw materials from responsible sources as possible and is also making sure that the people building the phones and working in the factories get decent wages and can enjoy better work-life balances.

By getting a FairPhone you're joining a growing movement of people who actually give a F*** on what tech does to our World.

Sounds good, right? I thought so too.

You can get yours with a €50 discount by following this link:

Yes, this is a referral program post. (I get €25 off my next purchase if somebody goes through the whole thing - not really why I am posting this) But I am honestly really happy with mine and just wanted to promote Fairphone and their work more. And if you can get started with a nice discount, then why not?

What is Fairphone about? See below in this great introduction video:

@CrowderSoup Yes, I'm using Syncthing as a way to keep notes and files in sync from my Android phone to my NAS and PC and then Backblaze on my PC makes the real backup.

So tired of mobile phone vendor lock in and bad usability for the sake of keeping people in their services. Try printing a file from your email inbox to a Bluetooth printer from your Android phone.

Does anyone actually enjoy the way contacts are organized on Android? My contacts list has been very difficult to manage due to the merge history of Gmail, Facebook, LinkedIn and others and now it's a bit of mess.

Why is the precise volume control of Bluetooth devices over Android 9 impossible to implement correctly?

Johan Bové

Keeping notes and files synced between my devices using Syncthing. Editing files on Android with Markor, using Todo.txt for task planning and VSCode on the PC.

@DiceKeysLLC That's great news. Will you release the DiceKeys-Android app on F-Droid (https://f-droid.org/) as well?

@24degreesbe op Android blokkeerd "tracking px images' ook standaard. Het leuke is dat het een extra poging doet om enkel deze px bestanden te blokkeren zodat je gewenste afbeeldingen nog te zien krijgt.

I've set up Delta.Chat on Windows 10 and my Android phone (F-Droid) and got one person to test this with. Why did I not hear of this before? It's really cool how it extends the e-mail accounts we - probably- all already have. Reading more about the features it has here: https://delta.chat/en/user-voices

The aweful storage space management of the Android 10 System is making me want to get an iPhone instead. I added an SD Card to my phone, followed all the steps to make the space being used as internal and now the system Camera app is not crashing on video mode and does not record any images.

I can't change the storage option in the Camera app settings and now also taking Screenshots fails because it keeps saying there isnt enough space.

Kinda digging this Android "bed time" mode with greyscale only. Going to activate this on my own stuff too.

Wanted to remove a "home" pinned site on Android and selected "uninstall", so Firefox completely uninstalled. Doh.

Bluetooth is really one of those technologies that are wonderful when they work, but can be really annoying if it glitches. For instance when I leave my Android phone on the table between the Mac and the Trackpad with Bluetooth then the signal of my keyboard and track-pad is interfered with and the mouse cursor moves erratically.

Why are the volume controls on Android 9 and 10 so broken?

Enjoying FairEmail on Android by M. Brokhorst and contributors. The fully open sourced and free email client is powerful and complete. Lots of features does give it a small learning curve of a couple of hours. Using it together with OpenKeyChain to send OpenPGP signed emails. Happy to support the development.
