Wouldn't it be great if we had self tests for basically every illness? If we could do it for covid, should be not impossible to have more.

Covid is NOT over in Germany. Our kita / kindergarten is staying closed tomorrow because of an outbreak. Wear masks when going to public places, please!!

Sad to learn that Mory Kanté ( from Yéké Yéke fame) passed away last year in May 2020 as a result of the problem that he couldn't get his treatment in France for his chronic illness due to Covid restrictions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mory_Kant%C3%A9

First day of vacation - spent the whole day in the Hofgarten park with my son. He ran and played in the sandbox - briefly chatted - with mask on - with other parents on anything but Covid - it was a great day outside, with good fun and the weather was warm and pleasant. Life was good today and I'm going to bed relaxed. Tomorrow again?

We had a great time at the Münster Zoo today. Many animals were in winter cages still and we couldn't visit any animal housing because of covid. Nevertheless, we saw enough of the animals and were able to play in the cool playgrounds to make the long trip worthwhile.

I started a monthly donation to the Deutsche Krebshilfe (https://www.krebshilfe.de/) because if showed me one important fact, that is that our current state of medicine and science can achieve big things in a short time WHEN WE WANT TO and put our FOCUS and MONEY into it. Imagine if we did a similar effort on Childhood Cancers?

Today marks the first (and hopefully last) anniversary of my COVID-provoked home-office period.

What would you do if your government launched a "green pass" for the vaccinated? My question is: will this pass ever be no longer used or applicable? I do understand it gives an extra incentive for deniers to get their vaccine, but that should only be in case there is enough supply. Is there enough supply or will only the already privileged have access to it?

Hoping that because fireworks on new year's eve will be largely forbidden this year, the streets in German cities, will look much less like battle fields on January 1st. Totally supporting this covid measure to help keep the hospitals focused on treating Covid patients.

BioNTech: the German biotech behind the coronavirus vaccine

Founded by migrants to Germany and funded by US and Asian investors: BioNTech, the company behind the vaccine, is a classic European startup story. biontech, covid, syndicated

Beyond Cyberpunk: Towards A Solarpunk Future

Substack asked me about the future of tech subcultures in a recent interview. Don’t take my noodling too seriously though. If anything 2020 has taught me the future will be far weirder than anything we expected. I remain convinced COVID will impact subcultures as it's affected everything else. solarpunk, syndicated

Covid is taking away a lot of things we took for granted. Sad news at today.

So sad to see the big closing sale happening at the Düsseldorf Karstadt. The retail business is having a tough time. Unfair E-commerce by giants like Amazon, COVID-19, mismanagement and speculation, and specifically high rent prices are not helping. Not sure what we can do about this?

One year after DWeb Camp 2019, our world is in flux. We’ve never needed community and connection more.

Join us for the July DWeb Meetup: 2020 Community Views Around the Globe

On Gather.town, we invite you to join stretching on the beach at 9:15 AM Pacific.

Custom Camps will lead us in ice breaking games at 9:30-9:50 AM PT.

And we’ll hear from some of our 2019 Global Fellows, sharing their on-the-ground experiences from India, Brazil, and South Africa.

In communities that are largely offline, how do you educate your students, share good health information and protect yourself during COVID? What technologies and community practices are emerging to fill these needs?

DWeb Community: This is a chance to listen. To learn from those on-the-ground building community networks and offline solutions. For developers: a rare look into the tech needs of large swaths of the globe and some of the homegrown solutions that are emerging amidst the crisis.

Plus, John Conor Ryan and Mai Sutton will unveil the first set of DWeb Principles for your input and feedback.
