Enjoying to book The School Of Life by Alain De Botton. Early in, but already feeling good about having picked it up at the bookstore.

"Reading these books led me to reflect on a key differences between learning technologies that capture the public imagination and learning technologies which accumulate research evidence to support their effectiveness. Charismatic technologists often spin stories how individual learners will accelerate without much support from teachers, parents or fellow students; effective technologies understand that learning is social and most regularly happens in communities. Charismatic technologies dramatically simplify adoption and implementation (in Ames’ book, OLPC sometimes envisions air-dropping laptops into remote villages); effective technologies understand that leveraging technology for learning at scale is an organizational change problem with essential infrastructural needs. Charismatic technologies often portray their approach as teacher-proof or teacher-aloof. As such, teachers are acknowledged as important but teachers' own learning needs are minimized. The research literature, on the other hand, consistently finds that technology must solve problems as experienced by the teacher, that teachers need communities to support their own learning, and that a "shift of ownership" from developers to teachers is essential to achieving learning impacts at scale. "Prisoners of Geography - our World explained in 12 simple maps" by Tim Marshall explains perfectly why Russia is after Ukraine in four pages and it has nice illustrations too.
Highly recommended illustrated book to immediately understand that Putin's narrative of "freeing the Ukrainians from neo nazies" is total BS and he's only there so he can feel like 1547 Ivan the Terrible and control the ports to secure access to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, while also controlling one of the World's biggest fertile lands.

The "Weaving The Web" book by Tim Berners-Lee should be a required read for anyone building on the Web.
Decided to keep the smartphone out of our bedroom and keep a note book instead. Already feeling lighter and fresher.

Thinking about how Düsseldorf could do its own Doughnut Selfie.
The “Circular Economy” is really how we all should think about our daily lives and work.

V-Tech "Download Manager" issues

Had a really bad experience trying to get the V-Tech "Download Manager" for their Magic Book 3D to work on Windows 10 - the application window did not resize and I had to put the screen size to a ridiculous 480x640 pixels to be able to get to some point where I could actually use the buttons in the application.
Somehow it detected the 3D Magibook on USB, but then, after waiting for the app to "load", and I was able to see the books to add the media of, the USB connection all of sudden disappeared and I was stuck again. I tried four times to get through the process to no avail.
Luckily I have a Macbook from work. I am not really supposed to use it for private applications, but in this case I was a little desperate. So I installed the "Download Manager" for Mac on it and had to mess a bit with disk access for it work, but was happy to see that all worked well on the Mac version of the application. First of all, a "firmware upgrade" window popped up and I had to go through the whole process.
I am suspecting that this firmware issue is the cause of the Windows problems. After the firmware upgrade, I was able to get the media for the new book we got our son, using the Mac app. But haven't tried with the Windows 10 version of the app.
Disappointing that the experience with the application on Windows 10 is so bad. So I wrote the customer service about it. Let's see what happens next.
This psychic attack on New York city in #Watchmen back in 1985 really left a big impression on me. What a crazy idea! Learned from it through the excellent 2019 HBO show. I need to pick up a book or comic some time too.
Enjoying learning from Hans Rosling in his families' #Factfulness book. I want to be a #possibilist too. It's comforting that his message and work lives on.
Anyone started building a chess game using our #Hyper profiles yet? Most of the features are already provided by Beaker (address book, permissions for writing); the only things we need to do is to get the chessboard and the chess engine and bring all the pieces together in a sweet #hyperdrive app.
