The backup file of our family Whatsapp group, including videos, is about 7GB large. Good thing we can still locally backup the files to other systems.
I am using Earthstar Project's user_scripts in my Timekeeper tool. Programmed using Typescript and using the Deno runtime. It is super nice how I have multiple copies of the data generated by the app. The data is stored within the Earthstar "share" first of course. Then I sync the data with a local dir, which also allows me to edit the data from any editor I have. Then I can easily sync that same data with a remote Earthstar replica, For backup I regularily make a quick zip file backup on an USB stick. All from the command line and without hassle. Oh and I forgot I also keep a replica on another PC, where I can also edit the data which then can sync back.
Wondering how much CO2 is used by running a personal file share server on NextCloud on a Raspberry Pi 3, with a backup to a local Qnap NAS system, which keeps an offsite backup on B2? My home uses renewable energy... Going to have fun figuring that out.
In case of a cyber warfare - the internet probably won't work - keep your precious data save by keeping a local backup.
The battery life in this i9 MacBook Pro from 2018 has diminished to being barely enough to serve as an UPS backup system with enough time to perform a safe shutdown
The TrackPoint experiment is over. I'm giving up. I'm probably doing something wrong, but it's actually uncomfortable using it as the only input device. Cramp in my fingers and the skin on my index finger feels roughed up a bit. I guess it's good as a backup in case nothing else works or you forgot your mouse; but if I had a choice, I would still use a mouse or trackpad instead. So now looking for a decent mouse replacement.
Pretty happy with the #QNAP NAS I purchased recently. Already proved it's worth when I accidentally screwed up a mirror backup action using Beyond Compare and it had kept the deleted files in a back up folder. I was able to revert the deletion and did not lose any data!
Migrating my data #backup plan away from Google and Onedrive in favor of my own drives at home, synced across devices with Syncthing, including a cloud backup on Backblaze. It's a bit of work to set up, but feels good to have it under my own control.
My secure external HD drive "Pictures" backup was in desperate need for a run; since I keep the drive in a secure location at all times, except for when the backup runs and life reasons, it had been a couple of months since the last process. Trusting on my online backup storage too much perhaps?
Didn’t know a Yubikey could do that. Thanks for the tip.
Make sure to make a backup however!
Almost locked me out of my own PC because of a forgotten pin code on my Yubikey Nano. Note to self: make a backup of the pin code next time and perhaps not use it for my critical systems, especially since I'm already using other authentication mechanisms. Btw, locked myself out of my Kraken account too in the same way. Didn't make a "master password" there and now I can't access it. Not that I was using it for anything...
To do for this site: fix the print stylesheet so it will be easier to make a (printed) backup of the site in PDF format
Finished transferring all apps and data from the iPhone 7 to the XR. Went pretty smoothly and without issues. Having a backup on my work Mac at hand helped. But wow, is this XR heavy compared to the iPhone 7! The Seven feels super light weight compared to it.
Thinking of signing up for an Archive.org Library Membership to make a #backup of my personal sites.
