Journal Update

1 min read

The news and measures about the corona virus are giving me anxiety caused nightmares. I feel genuinely scared about what is happening. Worried about my family and my friends and colleagues. Worried that we might not have enough supplies. Worried about how the World As We Knew it is over. Perhaps I've seen too many apocalyptic movies and TV.

I've been away from the office at home for five weeks now. Working from home was okay until my son couldn't go to the kindergarten anymore and then last Friday, my laptop broke. I got the machine replaced. Hopefully I can be somewhat productive again today.

We're together in this until at least April 16th when the schools can reopen. Today is March 17th. A complete lock down of Germany might still happen. For how long is totally unclear? I need to make an inventory of the food and supplies in the house.

Nathan is great and developing. He's also starting to talk much more. And he even formed little sentences. It is however tough keeping him busy without simply turning on the TV. Worried what this is doing to his development?

Nathan loved running through the water and jumping up and down in muddy puddles!

Had a really great day out in the Irrland Park in Kevelaer, NRW, a big farm transformed into a very entertaining kids theme park. Nathan had a lot fun riding the Bobbycars, playing in the hay and petting the animals!

Waiting until Nathan turns eight to get him this interesting puzzle / educational analogue computer game.

Restarted taking my notes "Bullet Journal" style in my canary-yellow notebook. Reviewed and reread old entries from when Nathan was even smaller and having those mentions on paper is worth the trouble of keeping the habit and the discipline of hand-writing them. Paper-notes still feel more likely to withstand the test of time compared to any digital solution.

Had a fun day at the park yesterday. Joined some friends at a kids music festival. was impressed by the number of other kids, but was more interested in trying to pet the dogs than the music. He got all covered in sand when playing in the sandbox too.

is starting to use recognizable words. Today he said "water", earlier this week: "bubble". Most of the times he's making up his own words still though. We love hearing his voice.

and his Italian grandparents just met again after not seeing each other in two months and they are all super happy!

Had a really nice morning today with waking up smiling. He's really into his extensive collection of pacifiers, which I started calling "his treasures". He's curious and smart and we love him with all our hearts!

It's amazing and wonderful to see my son at 17 months old can entertain himself by picking up a book and looking at the pictures... at least for 45 seconds. This morning I caught him sitting in his personal little chair for about 36 seconds. That's the longest time I have seen him sitting still, away from the car seat and when he's eating at the table with us. He's always busy and it's fantastic!

Yesterday also played with the water-sand play-set outside on the balcony for the first time. He likes wading his hands through the water and started cleaning up the spilled water with my socks. He is very eager to clean. Hoping he'll stay that way for when's he's old enough.

We gave a Playmobil Zoo playset gifted to him by Jorgen. He seemed to be intrigued by the stackable monkeys and tried pushing stuff up the slide. He enjoyed using the pitchfork as a baby fork.

Relaxed Sunday at home. Took to the park. And he enjoyed playing in the sand and on the swing. He went backwards from the slide for the first time. At home he helped me with cleaning up the balcony and the house. He's good at sweeping the floor. We're getting him a gravity marble game as he's mesmerized by things rolling, sliding and falling.
